How I did it
It has to be done at a precise time. I do not quite recall the time. I sat outside with my egg in the driveway for an hour before the time, trying to get it to work to no avail. At the exact time they said it was to happen, my egg stood on its end, and I have pictures to prove it! the reason this works is because at the exact time(not sure, but it may change every year) the pressure the earth exerts is exactly equal to the atmospheric pressure. Since the egg has equal pressure applied to both ends, it stays standing instead of falling over as it does when the pressures are inequal.
When I did it
I did this on the spring equinox of 2008. Do not remember the exact time of day, but it was something a classmate in a math class told me, and they said it had to be done at a certain time. At the exact time they told me, my egg stood up on its own.
Lessons Learned
- I was skeptical about wether it would really work, but it does!!! A great chance to teach your kids some interesting science
