How I did it
My 11-year-old daughter and I balanced a total of 6 eggs, in about 20 minutes. The first egg came out of the fridge, where it had been laying on its side, and I was able to balance it in less than 10 seconds. The rest were balanced in from less than a minute to maybe a minute and a half per egg. There were 5 other eggs that were tried and put back in the fridge after several minutes of trying did not result in balancing. My husband's family has done this for years, always on the vernal equinox, and my family has continued this tradition, balancing eggs every year. The 6 eggs stayed balanced for hours.
When I did it
Saturday morning, 3-20-2010. I had tried to balance a couple of eggs several weeks ago and had no success at all. I haven't tried to balance eggs at any other time of the year, but I think I will, at the very least, try on the autumnal equinox, and maybe on the solstices.
Lessons Learned
- Balancing eggs takes a little patience, and is easy enough that a small child can do it. You don't need any tricks, just steady hands and patience.
